once or twice

hand me a jar of buttons and i'll gladly dump them out and sort through them for an hour. a hand-me-down pair of pants for eli elicited such an event yesterday. he'll probably wear them all of two times, with his beanstalkish way of lengthening overnight so it was a little silly to spend the amount of time i did deciding which buttons would look best.

after this quick sewing project, we finished up the movie once. we'd almost gotten to the end of it the night before but after putting eli to bed, i got super sleepy--and also found myself wanting to savor the ending. what a good movie. such lovely music. i imagine i'll always associate those songs with this stage of eli's life. i remember seeing one of the songs performed on a late night show several months ago, back when i was nursing at all hours of the night. i loved it then and haven't heard it since. so when i finally heard it again the other night, i felt so sentimental. as if those were the good old days: never sleeping more than two consecutive hours, dreading having to get out of bed, fearing that sound of a hungry baby at 3 am. motherhood makes so little sense sometimes.

if you haven't seen it, go put that movie in your queue right now. if you're at all doubtful, then listen to songs by the swell season the swell season. that will settle it.
